May 20th

#2 son's BD today and I hope it is a good one for him.
I'm working on the laptop today, my desktop seems quite ill so it will have to go in and have a check up.
Bowling at Juan de Fuca again today.

This will be a shortened entry of the current story, tomorrow I'll have to write before I can deliver.

I had noticed earlier when I was on the far side of the fire a couple of shallow pools of water where the trees had been uprooted. The fact that there was surface water this far along into the dry spell indicated that there might be some kind of water source in the area. So with the crew all engaged I returned  to where I had spotted the water and  started searching about. A short while later I crawled over a down tree and found the remnants of what may have at one time been a small pond. There was little left as the tree damage had virtually destroyed the area but it left the possibility of creating a small reservoir.
I suddenly realized that dusk was upon us, it was still fairly early but thanks to the smoke blanket enhanced by our fire, darkness was coming early.
I went back and in a few minutes caught up with Jules, I caught his attention when he reversed to push some debris out of his way and signaled that I needed to talk to him.
He idled the machine down, put in neutral, climbed down and came over to where I was standing. “Jules it’s getting dark you can’t operate this thing on a fire in the dark without lights, any ideas?”
He stared at me for a moment then said “I can rig up a couple of lights but I’ll have to go back to our shack.”
“Okay, take my truck, the keys are in it. But just wait till I get out the First Aid kit and the rest of the tools.”
Jules was just turning the truck around when another pick up arrived with forty bagged lunches and a half dozen two gallon water bags. We would be eating sandwiches for supper and breakfast.
I went back to the fire and checked all the crew, at that point it was apparent that progress was slow but they were making some.
When I got back out to where the ‘cat’ was parked, Jules was already hooking up wires and taping them to the upper frame of the ‘cat’.
