June 9th

15C o/c. But sunny breaks.
Donut day at bowls, they all like this day.  M and company lost their last game (to a BC champ) so finished out of the 'money'. I won't talk about the Canucks!
Today we set up the Silent Auction we are organizing. It goes all Friday and Saturday.
Hope you didn't get caught in that E coli thing in Germany, Ch------.

Some more of Jerry ---

I settled down to do justice to the first bone and didn’t even notice them leave.

CHAPTER 3

  L
ater that day there were a series of bumps and I was loaded onto another platform with a bunch of boxes, I didn’t like it as there were boxes around my crate and on top of it and I couldn’t see anything.  I cried or rather called out to Bernice, I think I heard her call back but I never saw her again.
The boxes and I were whisked up and out of the hole and very shortly I was carried into a large building, a few minutes later much to my relief my lady showed up with another man. He, I would learn was her son and he carried me out and put me in the back of a truck.  We trundled along for a short time, I was almost sorry when we stopped, the air was full of new smells and the sun was peaking through the cracks of my crate, I felt excited but had no idea why.
After we stopped I was left alone in the back of the truck for a while, I thought maybe they had forgotten about me so I tried out my bark again, funny it sounded a bit squeaky this time.  But sure enough I was soon lifted out of the crate and my lady tied a ribbon around my neck then carried me into a small house.
Inside was another younger lady, she turned out to be the son’s wife, I sized her up for a moment then immediately felt a sense of liking and trust.  She was talking kind of silly though saying things like ‘cute’, ‘he’s a darling’.  However I sensed she was being complimentary to me so I wagged my tail and when she got close enough I licked her face.
I was then put in a small room by myself and I heard the new lady calling, “John, John come here, see who’s here!”
A moment later I heard a young voice calling out, “Grandma! Grandma, I knew you would come!”
There was a bunch of chattering for a bit, they talked so fast I couldn’t keep up so I found a soft spot and curled up for a nap.  I had just dozed off and the door opened, I didn’t bother to raise my head, just opened one eye and had a peek.  What I saw was a little curly haired boy, he looked kind of dirty – smudges here and there and his shirt hanging out. Instantly though a feeling zinged through my body and I knew that he was important to me.
He had been talking as he entered the room but he stopped in mid sentence and just stared at me, he looked over his shoulder at his parents and grandmother, my lady, she who was his grandmother said, “Go on, he’s yours John, Happy Birthday five year old.”
He, John rushed forward slowed and then picked me up, I squirmed around so that I was laying on my back and looked up at him, I was home no question I was where I was meant to be and he knew it too. He hugged me, perhaps too tightly but what the heck, it still felt good.
“What’s his name Grandma?” John asked then added, “Thank you Grandma he’s the best present ever.”
“Well he doesn’t have a name yet, so that will be your first job – to think of one.”
There was no hesitation, “Jerry his name is Jerry.”
‘Hmm’, I thought, ‘Jerry, Jerry, it has a nice ring to it.  This kid will do.’ From that moment or possibly from when he picked me up our relationship was born; a relationship that had a few petty bumps along the way but lasted all my life and beyond.
