Cool early this am abt 9C but already up to 18.
Just got back from Kelowna airport - had to pick up M's aunt from Saskatoon. The forest fire that broke out down there last night had smoked in the valley pretty good and although we were still some 30k's away the smoke smell was quite strong.
Had difficulty with the wifi yesterday but it seems ok today.
M's mom is being assessed today to see if she is strong enough to come home. We think that won't happen for a couple days.
This weekend it was very noticeable how agencies/governments etc either assume that on weekends specially long ones that the need for emergency services, normal human needs somehow evaporate and care is compromised as well as an elevated risk to human life. Of course it couldn't possibly be because cost out weighs those needs!! Of course some union contracts are the problem and the result is the agency in question strives to curtail costs. So we, the people suffer the consequences.
It was interesting to hear that among the several ridiculous demands, our provincial teacher's union now wants two weeks of paid leave when a friend dies, a years salary on top of pension when a teacher retires, there were several more leave with pay demands but I was too busy choking on the first one to hear the rest!!
