Mostly sunny.
Puttered about yesterday. Organized a few thing s for Jo. A quick shop in town. Got the lower oven going.
Bob moved a bit and his eyelids twitched, she shook his shoulder and repeated her words.
Bob groaned quietly, his eyelids fluttered then he opened his eyes. He stared straight ahead for a few seconds, his eyes unfocused, then he blinked a couple of times and turned his head slowly becoming aware and as it registered in his mind that Alicia was leaning over him, he blinked again and started to speak. His mouth was too dry and the couple of words were more like a croak.
Alicia realized what the problem was and putting the mug on the table she rushed over and dipped another cup into the one water pail that had water and took it back to the bed.
She again sat on the bed but had to slide over so she could support his head while he sipped the water.
As he sipped and swallowed Alicia said “Welcome back, you have a few bumps and contusions plus a nasty hole in your uh er ah hip area.”
Bob moved his head away from the cup and asked, “What happened? How did I get here and what are you doing here?”
“Never mind right now, here I have some meat broth. Drink it up and I can give you some more.”
Alicia put the water cup down and picked up the cup of broth.
Bob struggled to sit up, winced in pain and drew in a sharp breath as he stretched and pulled his buttock area.
“Stop, stop,” Alicia cried. “You’ll open the wound or at least tear off your bandage. I’ll prop you up while you drink it.”
Bob acquiesced and sipped then gulped the broth as he tasted it and his hunger came to life.
He drank it all and Alicia asked if he wanted more.
“No, uh no thanks, maybe in a little while. Uh it was good thank you.”
Alicia lowered his head then tucked the second pillow under his head. “I’ve got a project started here, I’ll work at that and when you’re ready I tell you as much as I can about what happened.”
She turned back to the stove and lifted the boiler off and set it on the floor. After washing her hands she gingerly lifted the jars out of the water and set them in rows on the table then started cramming each jar with the cut up venison. When she was finished she poured equal quantities of the salted water into each of the jars. As she finished she looked down at the packages of lids and under her breath said, “Damn not enough lids.” She swished out the salt water pot and poured in a couple of inches of water and put it back on the stove. “Double damn,” she muttered a little louder, “I need the screw rings.”
Bob had been watching her activities and finally asked “Where’d you find those jars?”
“Right under your bed where I am going right now.” She replied.
Bob frowned but remained silent as she went around the bed, lifted the trap door and taking her candle disappeared from his view.
He opened his mouth to call out then closed it as he waited for to reappear.
In a couple of minutes she was back up with a wooden box full of sealer rings and two more sealed and dusty jars.
Bob stared in amazement, “You mean there’s a door and a room under the floor”? He asked.
