5C over cast - it was raining at 5am.
Got the salmon smoked yesterday, I cut back on the salt this time and it turned out pretty good, especially the pieces that I honeyed.
Grandson Eric arrived last evening, he too on his way to Hawaii. We had a nice visit but due to his early flight went to bed fairly early. Had him at the airport by 4:45.
Had my INR done yesterday and got the envelopes ready for our mail to fwd later on.
The birds are very active at the feeder, I think greed drives them to eat more as more competition arrives.
I wrote letters to to friends of long ago yesterday, the one I went to grade school with at Irvines Landing, the other is older and was our neighbor when I was in my teens. I am sure I will hear back from both of them as we do this exchange once a year. The one thing I like about "old style" letters is that they can be newsy, one takes the time to explain what you mean - they are akin to having a face to face chin-wag. So different than emails, texting and the other modern communication methods. This reminds me that a few years ago I started writing an occasional letter to my kids and now have failed to do so for some time.
While I was writing to each of these old friends a realization came to me , old friends, like wine, just get better with age. Each in a small way has contributed to what memories we retain and often to the type of person we are. In revisiting they provide the opportunity to recall both small and not so small memories of the past.
Thinking about this I realized that one cannot over look newer friends, they also contribute and in a sense help provide current and day by day direction, enjoyment and perhaps support.
Both are equally valuable, they just provide different comforts.
