Cold all day on Monday. The clouds did move off for a couple hours in the pm but then an ugly rainstorm moved in.
Now on this thing of wills and othet house keeping chores --
Unfortunately this is something most younger people procrastinate on. Then when their parents get going on getting things done there is real dissassociation from any discussion of the process. This is foolish! When it becomes important for someone to do, it does not mean there is death lurking at the door. True in some cases illness may prompt the idea, but for the most part it is simply a well founded desire to make sure that the family understands just what there is and also importantly what there is not. Some of us know from experience that to die intestate creates unwarranted workload, heartache and stress for those who have to deal with an estate ( estate equals what you have physically left behind). So for those who are younger and believe that they will live forever or for those who just never get around to it, you do a disfavour for those you care about the most.
So when those who get on with the job want to talk about their will, their wishes, the disposition of their goods and chattel , suck it up, humour them, do yourself a favour. It doesn't' mean the end is close and even if it does, doesn't that parent(s) deserve a break.
Wills can be amended as time and circumstance demand, they don't necessarily have to be formal or notarized. It's not a big deal to do one but is a big deal to not have one done.
Not doing your taxes, not doing wills, not giving power of attorney, not naming people to raise young children is like not doing your dishes, cleaning your house or changing your underwear.
So when your parents and others do these things and reach out for your understanding, realize that they are just doing good housekeeping on a different level.
I'll add more on a related topic later.
