M bowling at C Saanich, watched in the pm. Haircut and puttered about.

A few moments later John and his father were on the street and walking down towards the waterfront. Ten blocks from the bank they entered the massive C.P. Rail station.
“I just pray our London office is still open.” Doctor Pearce said to John.
They located the telegraph office and in a few moments the telegraph operator cabled off this message. “To Church of England, London Diocese, Missionary Services stop
I am in Vancouver Canada with my wife and four children stop  I was advised that a bank draft for travel and necessities would be forwarded to the Royal Bank of Canada at Hastings and Burrard streets, it was to be here yesterday stop It has not arrived stop It is imperative this be forwarded without delay stop Reply as soon as possible to this sender stop I will await reply stop
Doctor Henry Pearce Md, Bre
After the message had been sent, Doctor Pearce steered John outside saying “We’ll take a short walk, we should be only a short distance from where our boat docked last night.”
The two strolled together, one of the few times in John’s life when he and his father had just a few moments of father and son time together. They checked in at the telegraph office after an hour; no reply had been received.
They then walked about the massive train station, watched one train arrive and another depart, then as they turned to walk back again to the telegraph office they spotted the telegrapher waving at them. They hurried over to the man and he handed Doctor Pearce a cablegram. “Just arrived sir, just this minute.”
Doctor Pearce grabbed the document and read over it quickly, it didn’t take long and the Doctor’s face went white then purpled, “Thunder and damnation!” He exclaimed aloud.
John looking startled as he had never before heard his father utter anything irreverent.
“What is it father, what’s wrong?”
“They are saying there will be delay, something about the responsible person being away for a short while.”
“What are you going to do?”
“Right now I will send a strongly worded reply and we’ll go back to the bank, then we’ll go find your mother and sisters.”
