August 8th

Puttered about, watered plants, read and puttered about in am. Men's day in pm, got my hearing aids serviced, picked up Jayke on the way home. Read a bit and club stuff.
Watched TV (with Jayke) then to bed. Weather continues in summer mode. 15c this am

Had this typed early this morning then forgot to finish and post it sorry!

Mrs. Pearce went straight to the small emergency room on her arrival; she knew her husband would be there as he had no surgeries scheduled.  They talked together for a few minutes then as she turned to do her rounds he said, “Oh yes, some of the patients are quite nervous because apparently there have been air raids to within a hundred miles east of us.” In answer to her questioning look he went on, “Not to worry my dear, one more reason why it is just as well that we are outside of the city.”
Mrs. Pearce nodded and left without comment as a man entered with blood dripping from one of his hands.
Dr. Pearce immediately turned his attention to what was obviously a new patient. “Well Wang Chu, what have you done to yourself this time? Wasn’t it just two weeks ago I had to stitch up your leg?” He asked in passable Mandarin.
While he attended to Wang Chu, Dr. Pearce kept a discussion going, asking about Wang’s family, his one cow, and if the next rice crop would large or small.
Wang answered all of the Doctor’s questions but asked none in return but as Doctor Pearce finished fastening the new bandage with a piece of tape he said, “Excuse me Mister Doctor, things are getting very bad with the war, my wife’s uncle who is from Hanqzii sent word that they have been bombed and there are many dead. Even the hospital was blown up. I think maybe you should leave here maybe go back to your country.”
“Oh, I am sure we will be safe here Wang and if the planes come to Wuhan there will be wounded and they will need our help, but thank you for your concern.”
Wang nodded slowly and made no further comment.
Dr. Pearce walked with him to the outer hospital door and as Wang moved down onto the step Dr. Pearce put his hand on the man’s shoulder, “Really Wang, thank you for warning me but God will protect us.” He turned and went back inside.
