Visited with overnight company then after lunch bowled in the MacLeans, won. Hot tub, news, supper and watched Outlander via pvr.

After a couple of weeks I realized that there was more to our world than our basket and I was compelled to explore.  Sometimes I could wander about for quite some time before I was found and carried back to the basket.  The entity that usually carried me back was what I came to learn was a human.  At first I thought it was some god-like being; the noises it made were at first strange then I realized there was a pattern to those noises; I listened carefully and one day in a flash I realized it (and others) were actually using the noises to communicate.  They were talking!
I listened carefully and almost in no time I began to understand what they were saying! They actually had a language and I could understand! Strangely enough my siblings as far as I knew never got it.  Although my body was smaller than theirs, my brain made their brains look like peanuts.  As I lay flat out on my side one day, my tummy as full and as tight as it could be, I thought about this and realized that I had a gift and it was up to me to use it.
A few days after this realization I was napping in our basket when I became aware of a new human talking to mine, I opened my eyes to see this other person lifting out and examining each of my brother’s and sisters.  There was some comment made about the ‘little black one’ being cute.  I was then lifted out but was dropped immediately and the remark was made that I was ‘just a runt’! Just a runt? I wasn’t sure what a runt was but it didn’t sound good, when a hand reached down for the fatso beside me I bit it!
“No only a runt but a mean little gaffer as well.” Came next.
Over the next few days more strangers came and more of my siblings disappeared. No problem.  The milk was still fairly plentiful and the competition was thinning out.
Then one day while I was dozing another stranger arrived, an older lady, there was some discussion going on, I opened one eye, took a look, rolled over and went back to sleep.  Suddenly I was lifted up and when I looked the lady was holding me in front of her face, she was smiling.  She said, “I don’t care if he is smaller than the rest, sometimes the so called ‘runts’ are the smartest, I will pay you half what you are asking for the others.”  She held me closer, I opened my mouth to give her a nip but almost of it’s own accord my tongue slipped out and I licked her nose.
She laughed aloud, “Yes, you’re the one.” She looked over her shoulder at one of my humans and said, “My grandson will love him. Do we have a deal?”

A few minutes later I was plunked in a cardboard box with an old towel and was whisked away.  At first it was kind of exciting but a few minutes later my box and I were being lifted up some steps, I peered through one of the holes that had been cut in the box and could make out some wooden seats and windows.  Suddenly with a jerk we started moving, it was noisy, my box was rocking; I was scared and suddenly I missed my mother and my brothers and sisters; I didn’t really cry, but I might have made some noises.  A hand came down through the top of the box and rubbed my head then my stomach, I licked it and in a moment the rocking motion lulled me to sleep.  A little while later I woke when my box was lifted again and we got off that noisy thing (I later learned that it was called a streetcar).

More to come, he has a dog's lifetime to live.
