Verena arrived right on schedule and we headed for Cavan Town. As we drove the country side changed and soon we were passing through low rolling hills or maybe hillocks. More trees but still many small fields of sheep and cattle. We passed through Cavan only missing the route once for a few minutes, then on to Cootehill. A much larger town than I expected, it felt like we had arrived home. Found the church of Ireland and was met by the Rev. Sandra Lindsay who opened the church and guided us through. M took my picture beside the baptismal font where my Grt. Grandfather was baptized. Then next door to the office and church records. We spent over 2 hours going through them, took pictures and copied information.
Had lunch at Sean's Diner a good choice, lucky. Found both graveyards, but no luck with finding anyone. Found a living Little who sent us to his mother who was a painter of renown and currently a genealogist. Not our people, they came over with William of Orange. Headed for Belfast, got lost in Armagh, not fun as we ended up in a british area. Verena was quite concerned. Finally got to Belfast but had a terrible job finding our hotel. Verena finally got shed of us and headed back at about 8:30. I made her promise to message me when she got home. This she did at 11:35 after missing the turn south to Dublin and retracing the route back through Cavan. What a gal. We owe her so much.
