April 15th

Drove up the Fraser Canyon route yesterday as the the Coquihalla had snow - not surprising as Abbotsford had blizzard conditions the day before. It is sunny here in the Shuswap this am.

Today I will put in a new poem I wrote a couple of weeks ago, family will recognize the theme, for everyone else, it is a way of telling my physical journey through the years.  Thanks to memory sticks I was able to bring
'My Documents' with me.

Journey  Home

In another country not far away
The journey began on a distant bay
A new home within weeks
And the future was set
A thirst for change without regret.

For three years they moved
Town to town with nothing proved
Then north they went
Two thousand miles
Through a portal, no longer exiles.

Vancouver first for about a year
Powell River next in a shack austere
Then up the coast
To the hamlet of Squirrel Cove
Then next to Lund by a cedar grove.

Three years later to Garden Bay
Then on to Irvine’s a short distance away
Four years later
In January’s wet
They boarded a ship following kismet.

Four years later they left by plane
Heading for Ganges, a link in the chain
Onward again two years later
Wilson Creek became their home
The hope then was no more to roam.

But one was ready to continue on
Within a year he had already gone
To the east for awhile
Then returning for a short rest
A week later onward he pressed.

On a mountain top he started a career
Then traveled the coast for over a year
He felt a call
To go further north
With no hesitation he sallied forth.

For a couple of years, throughout the region
He cruised all over with no firm vision
Then transferring to work more stable
He became a fighter
For a future much brighter.

But the moving continued with no change in rate
He followed his path without debate
The places he lived
Contributed their part
In the interim, like an unseen flowchart

Prince George and McBride
Were part of the ride
So to was Vanderhoof
Then Fort Nelson and Whiterock followed along
Hixon and again Prince George then Summit Lake erelong.

Valemount was next followed by Quesnel
Then again to Prince George, rather unusual
Two years there then off to Nelson
Two years again and off once more
To Salmon Arm and a goal he couldn’t ignore.

Invermere was next
Ambition with no pretext
One year more and opportunity came
Twin goals were achieved
As he had always believed.

The long search was over
No longer a rover.
At last it was time
To be content in knowing
That a new wind was blowing.

The career is past
No moving at last
Short journeys
Chasing the rays of the sun
Doing it all until day is done.
