Sun and cloud here in central BC (Prince George
Yesterday mowed 2 acres of grass and trimmed with the weed eater, piled wood. Eldest son arrived at supper time.
M helped with the weeding and scraped paint. Two of Jo's friends here for supper, I did a bbg - chicken, peppers and fresh asparagus.
, “You mean there’s a door and a room under the floor”? He asked.
Alicia nodded, “Yep and a bunch of canning and preserves. Which reminds me that there has been no repercussions from what I ate earlier.”
As she set her load down on the edge of the table she said, “By the way what’s your name? I can’t just be calling you, hey you.”
He stared at her for a second then said, “It’s Bob, what’s yours?”
“My name is Alicia and you may as well know now that hurt or not you have been trespassing on my property Mr. Bob, missing from Hubbard Island Anson and when I get you well enough you will be leaving.”
Bob’s jaw dropped, “How, how did you find out about me?”
“Your description and a picture is posted up at the RCMP office, I must say the picture looks better than you do. Your brother is looking for you.”
As they talked Alicia drooped the lids and the rings into the boiling water , waited a few minute then and started extracting and placing the lids on the waiting jars.
Bob started to say something more then lapsed into silence and quietly watched Alicia work.
She put the large boiler back on the stove.
When all the lids were in place she fished out the rings and screwed them down over the lids on each jar.
Once the boiler was at the boil again she added all the jars one by one, there was no room for two of them so she put them into the pot she had sterilized the lids and rings in.
Without saying a word Alicia went out side and returned in a few moments with a weathered piece of plywood which she put across the top of the boiler.
She checked her watch and muttered “Already quarter after five about eight fifteen then.”
Chapter 16
Her labours finished for the moment, Alicia put a small helping of fish and carrots on a plate from the two opened jars, she turned to Bob and asked, “Want some more broth? I don’t think you should have any of this as I’m still testing it.”
Bob nodded, “Yes that would be nice, thanks. Is there still more of the venison?”
“Not very much, by the time I finished deboning it most of it fit in the jars.” Alicia poured another cup of the broth and set it on the table. “You look a lot stronger, I’ll help you sit up and see if you can manage on your own.”
